Itzik Bar Mokha, the former head of the "Jerusalem Gang," was critically injured this morning in a vehicle explosion in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood of Jerusalem. His 13-year-on son was also wounded in the blast.
Bar Mokha is a prominent figure in the Israeli underworld, famously known for his involvement in the extortion of Ofer Maximov during the massive Trade Bank embezzlement scandal masterminded by Eti Alon. That affair resulted in the bank's collapse and a 13-year prison sentence for Bar Mokha. He was later convicted of attempted murder against former associates, the Malka brothers.
In recent years, Bar Mokha relocated to Yavne, where police intelligence regarded his presence as a ticking time bomb due to escalating turf wars over extortion and collection rackets in the Shephelah region. Despite his age and extensive time behind bars, he remained a high-priority intelligence target for the Central Districts and Jerusalem police.
