Italy bounced back from its 2-0 defeat to Belgium with an impressive 4-1 away victory over Turkey in the UEFA Nations League on Monday. Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, who returned to the national team after his red card in the World Cup playoff against Bosnia, scored the opening goal for the Azzurri.
"It was inevitable that my thoughts would return to Zenica," Bastoni told RAI Sport. "I will be indebted to the Italian people for the next four years. Whenever I faced difficult situations, I always chose to come out of them with my head held high and take responsibility."
Head coach Roberto Mancini, who made eight changes to the starting lineup following the loss to Belgium, expressed satisfaction with his players' response. "We played on a pitch where it had been raining all day, so it was natural to expect a reaction from Turkey," Mancini said. Looking ahead to the next match against France in Paris, he added: "Now we need to concentrate on the next game and try to recover physically."
