An Israeli businessman in his 40s was found dead in a restaurant in Addis Ababa, with local authorities investigating potential poisoning as the cause of death. According to reports, the businessman, who operated in Ethiopia, fell ill or was discovered after failing to return from the restaurant's restroom.

The victim, described as a healthy individual, was found in a restroom stall, prompting investigators to look into suspected poisoning. The Israeli Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa are currently in contact with the man's family to coordinate the repatriation of his body, which is expected to undergo an autopsy in Israel to determine the exact cause of death.

This incident follows recent diplomatic and logistical efforts regarding stranded Israelis in Ethiopia. In March, Mulu Bariah, a 51-year-old from Beersheba, passed away in Ethiopia just 48 hours before a scheduled rescue flight operated by Israir Airlines was set to bring him home. Bariah had traveled to visit an ailing sister and became stranded following regional security escalations.

A special situation room was subsequently established through the initiative of Member of Knesset Pnina Tamano-Shata, in coordination with President Isaac Herzog, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, and Transport Minister Miri Regev. The task force facilitated rescue flights from Addis Ababa to assist Israeli citizens stranded in the region.
