Israel's mortgage market is undergoing a major management reshuffle amid rising interest rates, regulatory changes, and intense competition. Major financial institutions are revamping their leadership teams to strengthen credit portfolios and expand market share.

Bank Hapoalim has appointed Roi Sagi as its new national mortgage array manager, succeeding Tom Ben David. Sagi emphasized that the mortgage sector stands at a fascinating crossroads of competition, technology, and customer service, noting that the primary challenge is to translate financial complexity into a streamlined, high-quality client experience.

Leadership transitions are sweeping across other major lenders as well. At Mizrahi-Tefahot, Dror Feldman announced his departure after more than three decades at the bank, including five years as deputy head of the retail division and head of the mortgage arm. Bank CEO Moshe Lauri selected Avi Badalov, formerly head of the bank's Dan region, to succeed him. Additional departures include Zoharit Yogev from Bank Leumi, who stepped down after a career spanning nearly three decades, and Dudi Mizylik of Mercantile Bank, who is set to retire by the end of the year.

These personnel changes coincide with stricter regulatory oversight aimed at curbing non-banking perks for mortgage advisors, ensuring that client recommendations are driven strictly by financial merits. Despite high interest rates and regulatory headwinds, mortgages remain a central profit engine for Israeli banks, fueled largely by refinancing activity and robust demand for residential real estate.
