The Israeli Foreign Ministry has issued a travel warning for citizens planning to fly to the Netherlands, cautioning them about potential prolonged and intrusive customs inspections upon arrival.
According to the ministry, the warning follows reports of intensive luggage checks for passengers arriving from Israel. This comes in the wake of a new decree that went into effect in the Netherlands on September 22, imposing restrictions on the import of goods originating from the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.
The Foreign Ministry noted that violating these regulations is classified as a criminal offense, which may lead to heavy fines and even prison sentences. Consequently, personal items in passenger luggage could be scrutinized depending on their origin.
In addition to import bans, the Dutch decree prohibits commercial activities involving these goods, including purchasing, selling, and brokering. Travelers are advised to familiarize themselves with the new regulations before departure to avoid delays.
