Israel Suffers Heavy Defeat to Ireland Amid Political Protests

The Israeli national team suffered a heavy defeat against Ireland, both on and off the pitch. After turbulent days and boycott threats, the Irish team ultimately appeared for the match in Debrecen on Sunday, but Ran Ben Shimon's players failed to show up.
Ireland scored easy goals, and by the 25th minute, they were already up 3-0 following a goal by Jack Moylan. The Cardiff City forward, who had supported Gavin Bazunu in boycotting the match, celebrated his fourth international goal using a black armband worn "in memory of the victims in Gaza." Moylan removed the armband from his arm, waved it toward the Israeli fans, and kissed it.
During the warmup, the Irish players were booed by the hundreds of Israeli fans who traveled to Debrecen, though the Irish anthem was respected by the crowd. Conversely, during "Hatikvah," the Irish lowered their heads and their bench personnel turned their backs to the pitch. The opponents also refused to shake hands with the Israeli players.
Next Sunday, Ireland will "host" Israel in the UEFA Nations League, with the match scheduled to be played behind closed doors in Serbia.
