Gilberto Mora made history by becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Mexico national team at 17 years and 348 days old, scoring in a friendly match against Colombia in Baltimore, USA.
After Mexico conceded an early goal to Luis Suarez in the ninth minute, the young talent equalized after halftime. Receiving a long through ball, Mora beat his defender with a brilliant skill move, bypassed the center-backs, and slotted the ball into the net to secure a draw.
Rafael Marquez Praises the Young Star
In his first match as Mexico national team head coach, Rafael Marquez praised Mora's exceptional abilities and emphasized the need to protect and nurture the young player's career.
"Now we need to take care of him, protect him, and help him develop. He is still young. We need to do everything possible to ensure he continues to grow," Marquez said in the post-match press conference.
European Giants Monitor Mora
Spanish outlet AS reported that both Real Madrid and Barcelona have intensified their scouting of Mora. Marquez, a former Barcelona player himself, expressed hope that the young talent will soon move to a major European club.
Mora has also been impressive for his club Tijuana, recording five goals and one assist in seven league appearances this season.
