Iran Threatens Regional Airports Over Halting Iranian Flights

Iran has threatened to target airports in neighboring countries if they cooperate with the United States by halting Iranian flights. The warning was issued by Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, according to Reuters.
Rezaei stated that if regional countries yield to American pressure and prevent Iranian airlines from operating in their airspace, Tehran will take action to disrupt their own airport operations.
The threat comes amid renewed US efforts to increase pressure on Iranian aviation. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced earlier this week that starting September 23, Iranian airlines and any entities continuing to provide them with aviation services will face secondary sanctions.
Under the US measures, service providers that refuel Iranian aircraft, provide landing services, or sell tickets for their flights risk losing access to the US dollar financial system.
Tensions have escalated following Iraq's decision to suspend Iranian flights to Baghdad in response to the looming threat of American sanctions.
