Innovation in Holon: Israel's First Bus Stop with a Cooling System
A first-of-its-kind pilot project has been launched in Holon, featuring a water-based cooling system at a central bus stop. The technology disperses water particles to lower the ambient temperature without wetting waiting passengers.
A refreshing technological solution, the first of its kind in Israel, offers an oasis for pedestrians and public transport passengers at the peak of the summer heat. The Holon Municipality has recently launched a unique experimental project, installing a water-based air cooling system at a central bus stop to provide relief to those waiting under the scorching sun.
The project, named "Pilot 7-7-7," operates at the bus stop on Golda Meir Street opposite the Holon Mall. As part of the experiment, the system runs for seven consecutive days, between 07:00 AM and 19:00 PM — the peak hours for high temperatures and active passenger traffic. The system, installed on the roof of the stop, utilizes water mist technology to disperse tiny particles that absorb heat and lower the temperature in the waiting area without wetting the public.

The trial period is designed to test cooling efficiency under changing weather conditions, system durability, and aspects of water consumption and maintenance. At the same time, the municipality has reached out to residents for feedback and suggestions regarding other stops in the city that are in urgent need of shading and cooling.
At the end of the seven-day pilot, field data will be analyzed to determine whether to expand the project to other busy stops throughout Holon. This refreshing initiative demonstrates out-of-the-box thinking for addressing climate change and the Israeli heat.
