Northern District police officers arrested a suspect on Tuesday following a covert investigation into the extortion and threatening of an earthworks contractor. The suspect attempted to hide in a safe apartment in central Israel before being captured following targeted intelligence and operational police activity.
The case began about a month ago when police received a report regarding property damage at a contractor's property in the northern moshav of Dishon. Arriving forces launched an investigation, gathering findings that suggested the damage was inflicted to send a threatening "message" as part of an extortion attempt.
The investigation turned covert under the Northern District's Central Unit until officers located the suspect in central Israel. Following his arrest, he was transferred for questioning and will be brought to the Kiryat Shmona Magistrate's Court for a remand hearing.
Police stated that they act with determination against extortion and threats, utilizing all available tools and resources to protect the public and bring criminals to justice.
