Israel Medical Association Condemns Doctor's Remarks on Arab Physicians
The Israel Medical Association condemned remarks by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Amir Rubin in Israeli media questioning Arab doctors, referring the case to its ethics committee.

The Israel Medical Association (IMA) has strongly condemned controversial remarks made by Dr. Amir Rubin, an orthopedic surgeon, during a broadcast in Israeli media. IMA Chairman Prof. Zion Hagay denounced the statements as severe and dangerous, emphasizing that the association will not tolerate racism or incitement against medical professionals from any sector.
During his appearance on the midday program, Dr. Rubin questioned the safety of allowing Arab physicians to administer treatments, drawing a comparison between medical syringes and weapons. He further alleged that Arab citizens of Israel speak differently in Arabic than in Hebrew and claimed some had expressed a willingness to align with enemies during wartime.
The IMA stated that these remarks cast an unwarranted shadow over the entire community of Arab doctors and nurses, falsely portraying them as potential threats to patients. The organization warned that such rhetoric not only harms medical staff but also risks eroding public trust in the country's healthcare system.
Ethics Committee Review Initiated
Prof. Hagay stressed that the comments constitute a grave affront to Dr. Rubin's colleagues and represent incitement against an entire population. He noted that thousands of Arab medical professionals provide dedicated and professional care daily, and casting doubt on their loyalty based on ethnicity undermines the essential doctor-patient relationship.
Following the broadcast, the IMA received multiple complaints regarding the incident and referred the matter to its Ethics Committee for a thorough review. While no formal disciplinary proceedings have been announced yet, the leadership made it clear that discriminatory rhetoric will face strict institutional scrutiny.
