Negev Council Member and Father Arrested Over Brutal Iron Bar Attack
A Negev local council member and a father were arrested on suspicion of attacking a young woman with an iron bar, prompting her suicide attempt and hospital admission in Beersheba.

Israeli police arrested a municipal council member in a Bedouin local authority in the Negev on Monday, along with the victim's father, on suspicion of brutally attacking a young woman with an iron bar. The violent assault reportedly followed a family dispute over the victim's personal choices.
According to police and investigators, the brutal incident occurred on Sunday, driving the victim to attempt to end her life. She was rushed to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, where police investigators took her formal testimony. The young woman stated that her father, her uncle who serves as a local council member, and another relative took part in the assault using an iron bar.
Officers from the Segev Shalom police station launched an immediate investigation upon receiving the report, leading to the swift arrest of the suspects. The father's remand was extended by six days by the court due to fears for the young woman's ongoing safety, while the council member is scheduled to appear before the Beersheba Magistrates' Court for a remand extension hearing.
