Played a Solo from an Ofer Levi Song on TikTok — and Was Invited to Perform with Him

Guy Kurtz, a guitarist and music producer, published a video of himself playing the synthesizer solo from "Meohav BaGeshem" (In Love with the Rain) by Ofer Levi on guitar. It is a complex and demanding piece, and Kurtz said he worked hard to ensure he didn't miss a note. He never expected what happened next: he received an inquiry from Ofer Levi's team and found himself performing on stage alongside the singer at a show at Zappa Jerusalem.

The solo from "Meohav BaGeshem," which shifts between different scales and drifts from the realms of the "depression" genre to jazz, is difficult to play on keyboards, let alone on guitar. Despite the technical challenge, Kurtz rose to the occasion.

"It's a famous solo. I uploaded a video of myself playing it, and it reached about ten thousand views. About two weeks ago, one of his musicians wrote to me saying he saw me on TikTok and suggested that I join them for shows," the young musician says in a conversation with mako.

In another post, Kurtz shared the correspondence between himself and Levi's musician:

"We were sitting here before a show, and he was really impressed by your take on the solo. He would be happy to see if you're interested in joining us for shows," wrote the musician, Eran.

Guy's initial reaction was disbelief: "No way." But the real challenge was still ahead.

"Of course, I agreed with huge joy," recalls Kurtz. "I had less than a week to learn a massive three-hour show. I didn't sleep at night; I wrote everything down in notes to come prepared and not make a fool of myself. The show was amazing, and I enjoyed it like crazy. Behind the scenes, Ofer complimented me on the gesture, and when I came to say goodbye and thank him, he told me: 'Come regularly'."
