IDF Sweeps Northern Ridge Following Ramim Disaster

Combat engineers from the Yahalom unit and trackers from the 769th Regional Brigade conducted extensive sweeps in the Mitzpe Pe'ar area between kibbutzim Yiftah and Manara. The area has been declared a closed military zone following an order signed by the Commander of the Northern Command. The Israel Defense Forces stated that checks will continue in the coming days.

According to military sources, operations were strictly limited to roads and paths. "We cannot expect the IDF to turn every leaf or stone to search for unexploded ordnance. We sweep roads and trails and mark them as inspected," a military official noted, adding that responsibility was later handed over to the Jewish National Fund and other civilian bodies.

UXO Hazards Across Israel

With hundreds to thousands of unexploded munitions estimated across the northern, southern, and central regions, the military urged civilians to exercise caution. The Home Front Command announced a broad awareness campaign to warn the public against collecting unexploded ordnance.

Following yesterday's incident in northern Israel, the Home Front Command is stepping up awareness activities regarding the danger of unexploded ordnance, expanding guidelines across all channels in cooperation with local authorities to protect human lives, the military stated.
