Active Missile Remnant Found in Tiberias Following Ramim Ridge Disaster
A ten-year-old boy found an active missile remnant in Tiberias a day after a fatal cluster bomb blast at Ramim Ridge injured dozens, prompting a controlled police detonation.
A ten-year-old child found a missile remnant on Rabbi Akiva Street in Tiberias and played with it. The boy brought the remnant to his father, who immediately discarded it and alerted the police. Police sappers examined the missile and determined that it contained active explosive material and could detonate. Police cordoned off the scene, and a controlled explosion will be carried out in the area within the hour. The discovery comes a day after the disaster at Ramim Ridge, where a high school student was killed and numerous others were injured.
The incident in Tiberias follows the tragedy at Ramim Ridge, where Eliezer Yair Wilensky was killed. The child found the missile remnant during the day on Rabbi Akiva Street and began playing with it before showing it to his father, who recognized the immediate danger. Sappers who arrived at the scene emphasized the disaster that was averted due to the active explosive material inside the missile, noting that it could have caused heavy casualties.
Ramim Ridge Investigation and Casualties
According to the initial investigation by security forces into the Ramim Ridge disaster, the teenager collected a cluster bomb found alongside a marked trail and placed it in his personal bag. The group continued their hike, and toward the end, before reaching the bus parking lot, the teenagers sat in a circle. At that point, for reasons still under investigation, the bomb detonated, causing numerous casualties.
The area near Ramot Naftali road was closed off by the 91st Division, and it is estimated that additional unexploded ordnance will be found in the coming days and weeks.
Twenty-four other people were injured, including students and teachers from the ORT Ma'alot middle and high school. This morning, they remain hospitalized in hospitals across northern Israel, with four in serious condition, seven in moderate condition, and the rest sustaining mild injuries. Hours after the severe disaster, IDF soldiers located additional cluster bomb remnants in the area, not far from the site of the incident.
