IAI and SIG SAUER Test FIRE STORM 250 Unmanned System with M250 Machine Gun
Israel Aerospace Industries and SIG SAUER successfully tested the FIRE STORM 250 tactical unmanned system, combining VTOL capabilities with a remote-controlled M250 machine gun.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and SIG SAUER have completed live-fire testing of the FIRE STORM 250 tactical unmanned system, featuring a remote-controlled weapon station and an M250 machine gun.
Live-Fire Testing and Capabilities
The successful test took place during the AUSA 2026 exhibition in Washington. The system hovered over a simulated battlefield, identified targets using its onboard camera, and executed single-shot and semi-automatic engagements across various ranges and altitudes.
"The next generation of unmanned systems will be defined not only by their level of autonomy, but also by their ability to integrate information gathering, decision-making, and action in the operational environment," said Moshe Levy, IAI Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Military Aircraft Group.
Technical Specifications
-
Flight Endurance: Up to three hours carrying 200 rounds.
-
Takeoff and Landing: Vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) enables deployment from forward positions without runways.
-
Propulsion: Multi-fuel internal combustion engine allowing rapid field refueling.
-
Payload: SIG SAUER MICROLIGHT weapon station with an M250 machine gun, totaling approximately 24 kg.
Human-in-the-Loop Control
Despite advanced automation, strike authorization remains strictly under human control. Operators receive real-time sensor data and tracking feeds to authorize engagements.
"The future of the battlefield will be determined by the ability to connect intelligence, technology, and operational force into a single, precise, and effective response," stated Boaz Levy, IAI CEO.
