IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir Puts Military on High Alert, Launches Surprise Drill
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir placed the military on high alert ahead of the High Holy Days, launching a major multi-arena surprise exercise named "Dawn 2.0" to test readiness for sudden regional escalation.
The entire Israeli defense establishment is entering an exceptionally high state of alert ahead of the upcoming Jewish High Holy Days. IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir warned members of the General Staff on Monday that regional volatility remains high, emphasizing the need for maximum vigilance across all sectors.
High Alert Across All Fronts
According to military officials, there are ongoing attempts by hostile forces to target Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers on multiple fronts. In response, the IDF is operating continuously to maximize its operational freedom of action.
In the Gaza Strip alone, 14 terrorists, including five Hamas company commanders, were eliminated over the past week. Concurrently, the military is maintaining readiness for potential rapid escalation across various sectors, taking no risks despite a relatively low probability of such an event.
Surprise Multi-Arena Exercise Launched
To prevent any operational surprises and maintain peak readiness, the IDF has conducted a series of drills in recent days. Early Sunday morning, the military launched a large-scale, multi-arena surprise exercise named "Dawn 2.0" (Alot HaShachar 2.0).
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit released an official statement regarding the drill:
"Under the directive of the Chief of Staff, a surprise Chief of Staff inspection named 'Dawn 2.0' was initiated to test the readiness and alertness of the General Headquarters and major commands, the standby forces, and the capability to handle a sudden, complex, and wide-scale multi-arena scenario."
Strengthening Defenses for the Holidays
The timing of the exercise is deliberate, aimed at reinforcing defensive measures before the volatile holiday season. The drill tests decision-making processes and operational responses across all echelons, from regional commands and branches to the General Staff itself. As part of the surprise inspection, commanders across all divisions were summoned, and reserve forces and standby units were activated. The drill is part of the Operations Directorate's scheduled training program for 2026.
