IDF Balances High Alert and Risk of Miscalculation Ahead of Elections
Israel is on high alert ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections amid regional tensions. While the IDF has significantly ramped up its readiness across all fronts, military officials are working to calm public anxiety and prevent miscalculations.

Israel is on high alert ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections, with the military balancing heightened security measures against fears of miscalculation. Citizens are set to vote on October 27, 2026, amid ongoing regional tensions spanning multiple fronts.
Heightened Security and Regional Readiness
IDF forces remain deployed across all sectors, including Lebanon, Syria, Judea and Samaria, and Gaza. The Israeli Air Force is operating at a readiness level more than six times higher than it was prior to October 7, 2023. Additional reinforcement companies have been deployed to secure Eilat and the Arava region during the election period.
Despite the robust defensive posture, security officials report no concrete indications from Iran, Lebanon, or other adversaries suggesting preparations for an immediate offensive. The primary concern among military commanders is the risk of miscalculation, where defensive maneuvers could be misconstrued.
Countering War Discourse
Senior military figures, including Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir, have actively sought to calm public anxiety. Officials suggest that persistent talk of an imminent war serves external political agendas in both Israel and the United States, creating unnecessary panic.
"The discourse on an impending war likely serves certain actors here, as well as parties overseas, amid simultaneous elections in Israel and the United States," a defense official noted.
