Missing Hiker Found Alive After Week in Remote Michigan Park

A 70-year-old hiker, Craig Berg, was rescued alive and alert after disappearing for a full week in Michigan's remote Isle Royale National Park. Berg, who had embarked on an extended solo trip, failed to return as scheduled, prompting an extensive multi-agency search operation.
The dramatic rescue took place when fellow backpackers spotted Berg in a difficult-to-access area of the park. He was suffering from various injuries and hypothermia after spending a week alone without cellular reception or communication devices. A U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched to airlift him to safety.
Berg's wife, Debbie, stated that her husband set out to explore the sprawling park, which covers 207 square miles near the Canadian border. The search involved local police, canine units, the National Park Service, and several state agencies. Authorities expressed deep gratitude to all teams involved in the successful rescue operation.
