Erling Haaland Breaks Silence on Manchester City Financial Ruling Ahead of Liverpool Clash
Erling Haaland became the first Manchester City player to address the club's financial misconduct verdict, urging fans and teammates to stay united ahead of Sunday's clash at Liverpool.
Erling Haaland broke Manchester City's player silence on Thursday following the dramatic ruling in the club's financial misconduct case. The Norwegian striker, becoming the first player to publicly address the independent Premier League commission's verdict, sent a message of unity and optimism ahead of Sunday's high-stakes away match against Liverpool at Anfield.
City players returned to training on Thursday following the international break, during which the club was found guilty of numerous severe breaches of Premier League financial regulations. Manager Enzo Maresca, who returned to the club on Monday, met most of his players for the first time since the verdict was published and addressed the implications of the scandal.
"I think they (City fans traveling to Anfield) will enjoy it," Haaland told The Telegraph. "We must stay together. We must support each other and stay positive. No matter what happens in life, we always need to smile."
The striker added: "We must stay positive, look forward, try to win football matches, try to enjoy the situation and win the game. We must stay together and spread love to each other. So yes, stay together, enjoy the journey and smile."
