Guy Peleg prepares new lawsuits: Telegram channel owners in the crosshairs

A new publication may lead to further legal proceedings against several Telegram channels. According to a report by Daniel Amram, attorneys Asaf Sharaf, Magi Israeli, and Nili Schatz have sent formal letters to the owners of five Telegram channels regarding the dissemination of information they claim is entirely false and defamatory toward the son of Guy Peleg, a journalist and legal commentator for Channel 12 news.

As recalled, last week a false report circulated online claiming that Peleg's son had created a musical piece disparaging the national anthem. According to Peleg, his son had no connection to the composition. Despite this, the report was spread across five anonymous Telegram channels.

Attorneys are now demanding 50,000 shekels in compensation from the channel owners, alongside a formal apology. The letters state that if these demands are not met, a lawsuit will be filed seeking 160,000 shekels in damages from each channel administrator, without the need to prove actual harm.

This move follows a police complaint filed by Peleg regarding a smear campaign against his young son, Ori. According to the complaint, the channels not only spread false claims about the musical piece but also leaked personal details, including the boy's age and place of residence.

Peleg has vowed to expose the identities of those responsible and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. His efforts have received support from his Channel 12 colleagues, including Yaron Avraham, Dafna Liel, Nir Dvori, Ishay Levi, and Gideon Oko, as well as radio host Eyal Berkovic.

Simultaneously, Peleg is pursuing another high-profile case. The journalist has filed a defamation lawsuit for approximately 5 million shekels against a resident of Rosh HaAyin. According to Galei Tzahal correspondent Tuvia Yaglnik, the claim alleges that the defendant repeatedly labeled Peleg a "sex offender," "pedophile," and "psychopath," and even compared him to Nazis.
