Guy Peleg Files 5 Million Shekel Defamation Lawsuit
Channel 12 journalist Guy Peleg has filed a defamation lawsuit against a resident of Rosh HaAyin, alleging a long-standing campaign of libelous publications. The defendant reportedly labeled the journalist a "sex offender," "pedophile," and "psychopath," and compared him to Nazis, continuing the behavior even after receiving a formal warning.
Channel 12 journalist and legal commentator Guy Peleg has filed a defamation lawsuit for approximately 5 million shekels against a resident of Rosh HaAyin, who he claims has repeatedly spread serious libelous content against him.
According to a report by Galei Tzahal correspondent Tuvia Yaglik, the statement of claim alleges that the defendant published a series of false and severe accusations, including labels such as "sex offender," "pedophile," and "psychopath," and even compared him to "Nazis." It further emerges that prior to filing the lawsuit, Peleg sent a warning letter demanding the cessation of the publications, but according to him, the dissemination of the defamatory material continued. Consequently, the lawsuit was filed in recent days.
This legal move comes just days after Peleg turned to the Israel Police following a smear and incitement campaign conducted against his young son, Ori, on social media and Telegram channels. The publications disseminated false information alongside personal details, including his age and place of residence, with baseless claims that he created a musical piece insulting state symbols, the Torah, and the religious public.
Following these incidents, Peleg clarified that he would not let the matter pass and announced his intention to act by all means at his disposal to expose those behind the dissemination of false information and bring them to justice.
Recent events have sparked numerous reactions in the media sector. Peleg's colleagues at Channel 12, including Yaron Avraham, Dafna Liel, Nir Dvori, Ishay Levi, and Gideon Oko, as well as his radio co-host, Eyal Berkovic, expressed support and condemned the targeting of family members. They called on law enforcement authorities to act against those involved in disseminating the publications.
The complaint filed by Peleg regarding the campaign against his son is under review by the Israel Police, while the 5 million shekel defamation lawsuit now joins the legal steps he has taken against those he claims are behind the smear campaign against him.
