Tech giant Google announced that its artificial intelligence application, Gemini, has crossed the mark of one billion monthly active users. This impressive achievement comes less than a month after the company's latest financial reports indicated 950 million monthly users. With this, Google joins its major competitor, OpenAI, whose chat application, ChatGPT, was the first to cross this threshold last May.
How do users interact with Gemini?
According to Google's data, 63% of users prefer to talk directly to Gemini instead of typing prompts, with busy parents tending to use voice commands 43% more for performing daily tasks. Additionally, one in every five interactions with the app includes screen sharing or using the camera in live mode. Apple users account for more than 100 million of the active users, and Mac computer users operate the service twice as frequently compared to other platforms.
Another interesting figure reveals that Gemini generates about 150 million images daily, a tool that is becoming particularly popular among small businesses. Google launched the app during 2024, and since then has integrated the AI assistant into its web browser, Android devices, and its suite of work applications, which includes Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and more, which helped it accelerate the rapid growth in the number of users.
Market competition and Wall Street's reaction
Alongside the close competition against ChatGPT, other companies are also showing rapid growth in the field. The Claude app from the company Anthropic, while it has not yet reached the numbers of the two leaders, recorded a jump of 640% compared to last year, with about 56 million monthly active users as of the second quarter of the year. These data highlight the stubborn struggle for control over the global artificial intelligence market.
Despite the significant achievement of Gemini, Google's stock fell on Tuesday by 3.4% to a price of $343.89, completing a decline of 8.4% in the last five trading days. However, since the beginning of the year, the tech giant's stock has recorded an increase of 9.6%, which shows that despite the short-term fluctuations in the capital market, the company continues to establish its economic position.
