German Court Sentences Operatives for Iranian-Backed Terror Plots
A German court sentenced a Danish citizen to 8.5 years in prison for plotting Iranian-backed assassinations of Jewish and pro-Israeli figures, including Volker Beck.
A higher regional court in Hamburg, Germany, sentenced a Danish citizen identified as Ali S. to eight and a half years in prison for planning assassinations and arson attacks against Jewish and pro-Israeli targets on behalf of Iranian intelligence. His accomplice, an Afghan citizen named Tawwab M., was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
Conviction and Iranian Directives
According to the court ruling, judges were convinced that Ali S. was recruited by Iranian intelligence to carry out state-sponsored terrorism on German soil. A primary target of the plot was Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, alongside Volker Beck, president of the German-Israeli Society and a former Bundestag member.
Ali S. was dispatched in early 2025 to gather intelligence on the targets and prepared an arson plot against a kosher food business in Berlin. Federal prosecutors stated the surveillance also targeted two Jewish food merchants in the German capital as part of preparations for murder and arson.
Accomplice Arrest and Intelligence Warning
"Without the Mossad, I probably wouldn't be alive today."
Ali S. approached Tawwab M. to secure weapons for the assassination plot. Both men were arrested in Denmark in 2025 and subsequently extradited to Germany. Presiding Judge Petra Vande-Sporse stated that Iran is attempting to export terrorism to Germany, calling it unacceptable.
Volker Beck welcomed the verdict and called for the immediate expulsion of the Iranian ambassador, noting that intelligence provided by the Mossad was critical in preventing his assassination.
