A senior Hamas official confirmed to the London-based Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat that Ali al-Amoudi, considered the organization's leader in the Gaza Strip, was moderately injured in an IDF strike targeting him two weeks ago. According to the official, al-Amoudi was present in the targeted apartment but survived because he was in a side room.

The official stated that al-Amoudi is in good condition and receiving treatment in a secure location. This marks the first time a senior Hamas figure has acknowledged that Israeli intelligence successfully located its target.

Al-Amoudi, a former head of Hamas's propaganda apparatus and a 2011 Shalit prisoner exchange release, is competing for leadership in internal Hamas elections. The strike occurred two weeks ago in western Gaza City, resulting in five deaths, including four women.

The assassination attempt was part of an ongoing IDF campaign targeting senior Hamas commanders, which recently included strikes on northern brigade commander Izz al-Din al-Bik, finance head Muhammad Abu Alwan, and Rafah brigade commander Nail Abu Abid.
