Pro-Iranian militias across the Middle East are sending funds back to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) due to severe financial pressure on the Iranian regime, according to CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

Financial Strain and US Pressure

Admiral Cooper stated that US maritime blockades and sanctions have cost Iran $25 billion in oil revenues. Additionally, CENTCOM and the US Treasury have frozen $350 million in Iranian cryptocurrency assets.

The economic squeeze has become so severe that proxy groups are withholding salaries from their own fighters to funnel money back to the IRGC, said Admiral Cooper.

Impact on Regional Proxies

Groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iraqi Shia militias—traditionally funded by Tehran—are now reversing the financial flow. The Iranian military is reportedly failing to pay salaries, pensions, and benefits to public sector workers and internal security forces.

Strait of Hormuz Tensions

Cooper attributed a recent spike in Iranian attacks against vessels in the Strait of Hormuz to desperation within the IRGC. Despite these assaults, the strait remains open, with 400 ships and 100 million barrels of oil passing through in the past week alone.
