Flydubai Passenger Recounts Terrorist Attack and Cockpit Struggle
A passenger who helped neutralize a terrorist on a Flydubai flight detailed the harrowing dive and struggle inside the cockpit, recounting moments of intense fear before the plane landed safely.
Aharon Hayut, one of the passengers who subdued a terrorist on a Flydubai flight, described the terrifying moments when the aircraft went into a sharp dive two weeks ago. "I told her, 'Honey, I love you'. It didn't make sense to me that this is how I would die," he recounted in an interview.
Hayut and his fiancée Michal were returning from a trip to Japan during which they got engaged. During the flight, the plane suddenly began erratic maneuvers. Hayut recalled floating between his seat and the ceiling during the sudden dive while trying to calm panicked passengers around him.
As the situation escalated, Hayut realized an extraordinary event was unfolding. Hearing screams and rushing to the front of the plane, he identified himself as a medical student and made his way to the cockpit. Inside, he found a bloodied pilot and the attacker pinned to the floor by other passengers.
Hayut assisted in subduing the attacker, applying tight cable ties to secure his hands despite resistance and subsequent arguments with crew members. After the plane stabilized and landed safely, the couple began processing the profound trauma, struggling with nightmares and the aftermath of the harrowing ordeal.
