Galilee Resident Indicted for Swearing Allegiance to ISIS
A 19-year-old Galilee resident, Yacoub Shibli, was indicted for swearing allegiance to ISIS. This is the fourth recent case in northern Israel involving Islamic State affiliation and planned attacks on security forces.
The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment against Yacoub Shibli, a 19-year-old resident of Shibli-Umm al-Ghanam in the Lower Galilee, charging him with membership in a terrorist organization. Shibli is accused of identifying with ISIS, swearing allegiance to the group, and consuming its propaganda.
The suspect was arrested last month in a joint operation conducted by the Northern District Police Central Unit and the Shin Bet. This marks the fourth indictment filed in recent days against residents of northern Israel for identifying with the Islamic State.
Previous Arrests and Thwarted Attacks
One and a half weeks ago, indictments were filed against a 16-year-old minor from the Galilee and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kaabiah from Haifa. Both had sworn allegiance to ISIS and planned to carry out attacks on the Temple Mount and an IDF base in northern Israel.
The investigation into the minor revealed that he consumed terrorist content, searched online for instructions on how to manufacture explosive belts, and planned to target police officers and soldiers on the Temple Mount.
Shortly after the minor's arrest, police detained Ibrahim Kaabiah, a 19-year-old resident of Haifa, on suspicion of swearing allegiance to ISIS. His interrogation revealed concrete plans to execute an attack against an IDF base in the northern region.
