Israeli passengers and the flight crew successfully thwarted a suspected terror attack aboard a Flydubai flight en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. According to preliminary investigations, a pilot attempted to crash the aircraft into the ground during the flight.
The injured captain reportedly struggled with the attacker and managed to open the cockpit door just in time. This allowed alert Israeli passengers to enter the cockpit, overpower the suspect, and pull up the controls to halt the steep dive.
Heroic Actions and Safe Landing
"We showed resourcefulness together. It was a matter of to be or not to be, and I am glad we went for it," recounted Asaf Rajwan, one of the Israelis who helped neutralize the attacker.
Despite severe turbulence and damage to the steering system, the remaining pilots managed to stabilize the aircraft and land safely. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later visited Ben Gurion Airport to meet with the passengers and praise their bravery.
Indian media outlets highlighted the role of Indian Captain Sumit Machhar, who was injured in the cockpit struggle. The rescue flight carrying the traumatized passengers landed safely at Ben Gurion Airport, where crowds awaited them with Israeli flags.
