Following a thwarted terror attack on a FlyDubai flight, a 2024 State Comptroller report highlights systemic vulnerabilities in international civil aviation security concerning Israel. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the incident was a jihadist terror plot aimed at crashing the aircraft.
State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman previously recommended that the National Security Council (NSC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Finance, Shin Bet, and Israel Police, conduct a comprehensive review of civil aviation security. The Knesset State Comptroller Committee placed parts of the report under confidentiality.
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated regarding the security breach: 'The severe incident on the FlyDubai flight was a jihadist terror attempt, foiled only thanks to the heroism of several Israeli passengers who forced their way into the cockpit, subdued the terrorist, and restored control of the aircraft.' According to initial data, the attacker intended to crash the plane.
