UK Prime Minister: Fairford Base Attack Attempt Coordinated by Iran
British Prime Minister stated that the attempted attack on the Fairford air base targeting US bombers was almost certainly directed by Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
Britain continues to investigate the thwarted attack targeting American bombers at the Fairford military base. On Monday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer made it clear that there is a high probability of Iranian involvement, stating that the plot was almost certainly orchestrated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
"The Home Secretary will update Parliament regarding the incident at Fairford base, but I can confirm our assessment that there is a very high probability the event was coordinated from Iran, and almost certainly directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps," the Prime Minister stated. US President Donald Trump had previously noted that Iran was likely connected to the attempt.
Suspicion of Iranian involvement arose immediately following a statement issued by the Revolutionary Guards last July, declaring that the Fairford base was in the crosshairs of the Iranian terrorist organization. The Guards claimed that since US bombers took off from this base to strike in Iran, Tehran held the "right" to retaliate against it.
Following the incident, the United States relocated its bombers away from the base, a move to which Britain responded by maintaining that the facility remains extremely secure and that parked aircraft face no ongoing threat.
