Prosecutor's Statement Filed Against Eyal Nagar in Ashkelon Court
The Israel Police submitted a prosecutor's statement to the Ashkelon Magistrate's Court on Friday, signaling an impending indictment against Eyal Nagar. This development follows his tenth remand extension earlier in the week, which was granted to allow the Lachish District Central Unit (YARAM Lachish) to conduct a thorough financial investigation.
During the proceedings, Nagar's defense attorneys, Tamir Sangas and Salah Amsha, questioned the necessity of continuous daily interrogations when no new offenses were being introduced. Police representative Dudi Hazan confirmed that all extortion charges had already been presented to the suspect.
"Do you confirm that all extortion offenses have already been put to him?" asked Adv. Sangas. Hazan replied, "I confirm." Sangas followed up, "That means no new offense is expected to be put to him?" Hazan answered, "No new offense."
Judicial Findings and the 'Relay Race' Investigation
Ashkelon Magistrate's Court Judge Oshrit Hanna-Bar reviewed the classified investigative materials, including a fourth remand extension approved by the Deputy State Attorney, and confirmed that reasonable suspicion exists regarding extortion, threats, and protection fee collection.
According to the court's findings, Nagar allegedly operated a delivery business in Ashdod alongside others to monopolize the local delivery market and eliminate competitors as part of broader turf wars. The extensive police operation, codenamed 'Relay Race', involved undercover investigators establishing a fictitious delivery company called 'Mr. Delivery' to gather evidence against the criminal organization. Nagar was implicated as a covert partner profiting from the enterprise, facing additional suspicions of money laundering and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Arrests and Next Legal Steps
Nagar's wife, Ofir, was also arrested during the sweep and spent several weeks in detention before being released to house arrest due to their young children. With the submission of the prosecutor's statement, prosecutors are expected to request Nagar's detention until the conclusion of all legal proceedings.
