National Emergency Preparedness for Extreme Winter Scenarios

The Ministry of National Security held a special national preparedness conference on Tuesday addressing extreme weather scenarios expected this coming winter against the backdrop of the global El Niño phenomenon. The conference presented various baseline scenarios focusing on the possibility of above-average precipitation within short timeframes, which could lead to flash floods and widespread flooding across the country.

The conference was led by the Senior Security, Emergency and Cyber Division at the Ministry of National Security, in full cooperation with the Israel Police. Senior representatives from all emergency and rescue agencies attended the event, including Fire and Rescue Services, the IDF, Magen David Adom, as well as representatives from government ministries and relevant bodies such as the Meteorological Service, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health, alongside local authorities.

Inter-Agency Coordination and Readiness

During the discussions, the readiness and preparedness levels of all bodies to cope with extreme scenarios were examined. Special emphasis was placed on coordination and synchronization capabilities between forces in the field, government ministries, and local authorities, as well as the preparedness of the national public diplomacy array to deliver vital and reliable information to the public in real-time.

"Preparedness for winter events and extreme weather requires us to act with a systemic vision, in coordination among all parties, and with high operational readiness. Extreme weather events can develop rapidly and affect infrastructure, public safety, and routine life," said Ministry Director-General Rafael (Raful) Engel.
