Israel Education Minister Orders Safety Review After Deadly Northern Explosion
Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced a safety review following a fatal munitions explosion in the north that killed a teenager. Kisch also clashed with radio hosts over political controversies.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch addressed the deadly munitions explosion in northern Israel that killed a 15-year-old student and injured 23 others during a school trip. Speaking on 103FM, Kisch announced an immediate review of safety guidelines and school trip protocols in the region following the incident near Ramim Ridge in the Upper Galilee.
Response to Northern Disaster
Kisch stated that the ministry is conducting a thorough investigation into whether all safety instructions were followed. The preliminary findings indicate that the group of students, teachers, and chaperones from the Ma'alot Tarshicha religious high school possessed the required permits, but one of the students unfortunately picked up unexploded ordnance left in the field.
A major disaster. We must halt trips in the area and thoroughly examine the procedures and guidelines to see if there was a violation, said Education Minister Yoav Kisch.
Clash Over Political Controversy
During the radio interview, the discussion also touched upon recent reports regarding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's advisor, Yonatan Urich. When asked about former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett labeling Urich a traitor over allegations of using ChatGPT to improve Qatar's image during the ongoing war, Kisch sharply criticized Bennett.
If a failed prime minister uses the term treason on air against people, it is a disgrace, he lost it, he is failing in the polls, Kisch declared, condemning the rhetoric while deflecting questions regarding the specifics of the Urich affair.
