EuroLeague CEO Concludes Israel Visit Amid Push to Return Games
EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno and Competitions Director Diego Gean conclude their visit to Israel, evaluating security and venues as Maccabi Tel Aviv pushes to return home matches.
EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno and Competitions Director Diego Gean conclude their two-day flash visit to Israel today, Sunday. Israeli basketball clubs are hoping for positive news regarding the return of international matches to the country.
Upon arriving yesterday, the officials checked into a Tel Aviv hotel before being accompanied by Maccabi Tel Aviv co-owner and chairman Jason Levin. They attended part of a football match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bnei Sakhnin, followed by Maccabi Tel Aviv's basketball game against Hapoel Galil Elyon at Menora Mivtachim Arena.
Today, the delegation is scheduled to tour the new arena in Hadar Yosef alongside club management. They will meet with Sports Minister Miki Zohar, representatives from Hapoel Jerusalem including star guard Jared Harper, and potentially officials from Hapoel Tel Aviv before departing in the afternoon.
Maccabi sources reported that Bueno was highly impressed by the passionate atmosphere and full arenas. While Maccabi Tel Aviv continues pushing to bring EuroLeague fixtures back home—or alternatively to Cyprus if security clearances stall—the team will host its upcoming games against Real Madrid and Paris Basketball in Belgrade.
