Real Madrid Beats Villarreal 1-0 as Vinicius Sees Red After VAR Check
Real Madrid beat Villarreal 1-0 with a goal by Yan Diomande, but Vinicius Junior stole the headlines by scoring and then getting sent off via VAR for hair-pulling.
Real Madrid returned from the international break with an important 1-0 victory over Villarreal at the Bernabeu, thanks to a debut goal from Yan Diomande. However, the biggest talking point of the evening came from Vinicius Junior.
The Brazilian star started on the bench due to his slow start to the season. Brought on in the 52nd minute for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Vinicius immediately energized the attack. In the 72nd minute, he seemingly scored following a brilliant counter-attack, celebrating wildly as coach Jose Mourinho ran over to join him.
However, a VAR review revealed that Vinicius pulled an opponent's hair during the buildup. The goal was disallowed, and the forward was shown a straight red card, leaving his team with ten men in a dramatic turn of events.
