Thousands of residents from the Eshkol Regional Council, including bereaved families and freed hostages, gathered on Tuesday for the central memorial ceremony marking three years since the October 7 massacre. The event took place at the council square in memory of the 259 Eshkol residents who were murdered.

Security Measures and Ongoing Recovery

High security alert was declared ahead of the ceremony due to fears of potential provocations by Hamas. Reinforced security forces deployed across the area, while Home Front Command issued specific guidelines for residents. Council head Michal Uziyahu addressed the gathering, emphasizing the ongoing struggle and the slow path toward regional rehabilitation.

"Three years later, all our hostages have returned home and our communities continue on the path back, but there are no shortcuts," Uziyahu stated.

IDF Southern Command Address

Major General Yaniv Assour, head of the IDF Southern Command, addressed the crowd and acknowledged the military's failure to protect the nation on October 7.

"Three years have passed since that terrible morning, from our greatest failure as an army," Assour said. "On October 7, we failed in our mission to defend the state, to protect the home. The trust you placed in us was broken. And from those shards we have risen."
