Live on Sport4: Daniel Peretz opens the season in the League Cup
The Israeli goalkeeper started between the posts for Southampton against Colchester, and early on provided a save from three meters that prevented the hosts from taking a surprising lead.

Daniel Peretz opened a new season this evening (Saturday) in the Southampton kit, as he started in the away match against Colchester in the first round of the League Cup. After completing a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich in the summer, the Israeli received the spot between the posts in the first official match for the Saints.
Southampton arrived at the encounter as the clear favorite against the team from the fourth division, but already in the first minutes had to deal with local pressure. Peretz was in place with a great save from three meters that prevented Colchester from taking a surprising lead.
The Saints are thus opening a new season after a particularly dramatic end to the previous one, when they were eliminated from the Championship playoffs following a spying scandal. Peretz, who was a significant part of the team's comeback in the second half of the season, will hope to complete the mission in the coming season.
For Southampton, the goal is clear - to avoid an early stumble in the cup and gain confidence ahead of the start of the Championship, when they will meet Watford in the first round.
