Heavy mourning in Israeli media: Esteemed journalist Edward Attler passes away at 94

Automotive journalist, filmmaker, and rally driver Edward Attler passed away over the weekend in Tel Aviv at the age of 94. For nearly two decades, Attler led "Keys Inside," the legendary and beloved automotive column in the "Makor Rishon" newspaper, and later continued writing in his personal blog, "Car of the Soul."

Attler, who was born in Poland under the name Edward Grossbaum, was a Holocaust survivor who was imprisoned in the Warsaw Ghetto as a child. He testified that it was the difficult war years that shaped his passion for cars, which helped him in his imagination to detach from the suffering and horrors:

"For us, a car back then was wings."

His writing style was exceptional in the landscape of Israeli journalism: he combined, with sensitivity and talent, road tests and automotive culture with personal memories, Holocaust stories, self-deprecating humor, and sharp sarcasm that became his trademark. Attler left behind a unique journalistic legacy and a loyal audience of readers.

As recalled, just this weekend the media world in Israel parted with another legend. Journalist and presenter Oren Nahari, who battled ALS, passed away at the age of only 70. A few days before his death, Oren hosted his last program on "Reshet Bet" ("Kan Hadashot"), in which he said goodbye to his listeners as follows:

"Remember, the world is wide, complex, one must look at it with open eyes. This was my mission, this is my last request of you: continue to look, to listen, to ask questions, not to take things for granted, and to continue to be interested."
