Heartbreaking: Meir Shaar killed in accident just one week after engagement
A heavy tragedy struck the ultra-Orthodox community this evening (Monday) with the death of 21-year-old Meir Shaar, a top student at the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, who died when his side-by-side vehicle overturned near Neve Erez. Shaar had become engaged only last week and was preparing for his wedding.
A heavy tragedy struck the ultra-Orthodox community this evening (Monday) with the news of the death of 21-year-old Meir Shaar, a top student at the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. He was killed when a side-by-side (RZR) vehicle overturned in an open area near the settlement of Neve Erez. Shaar, who became engaged just last week, was in the midst of wedding preparations.
Around 19:35, a report was received regarding an off-road vehicle that had overturned in the Neve Erez area. Medical teams summoned to the scene found the young man with no signs of life and were forced to pronounce his death at the scene. His body will be transferred to the National Center of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir for identification.
Asaf Bruchi, deputy commander of the Binyamin district for ZAKA, and volunteer Baruch Zakbach stated:
"We arrived at a difficult scene in an open area, where we saw the ATV after it had overturned. MADA paramedics confirmed the young man's death. ZAKA volunteers from the Binyamin team are working at the scene to handle the respect for the deceased and to collect all findings for burial."
ZAKA spokesperson Moti Bukchin addressed the series of disasters occurring during the 'Bein HaZmanim' period:
"Within a short time, we are dealing with two difficult disasters: a toddler who drowned in a pool in Moshav Sdot Micha and a young man killed in an ATV accident. This period invites travel and activities, but alongside the enjoyment, responsibility is required. We call on the public to exercise extreme caution."
