Ben Saunders, the historic first-ever winner of the original Dutch edition of The Voice, has passed away at the age of 43. His body was discovered on Tuesday afternoon at the Rijkerswoerdse Plassen recreation lake in the Netherlands, following a search for a man matching his description. Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf reported that police have ruled out any foul play in his sudden death.
Saunders captured international attention as the pioneer winner of The Voice format, which subsequently became a global television phenomenon spanning the United States, Israel, and numerous other countries. Beyond his musical achievements, he was an accomplished tattoo artist with over 25 years of professional experience, owning a studio in Arnhem.
His partner Juanita and their nine-year-old son, Benji, shared a heartbreaking statement on Instagram. 'To quote our son Benji: "Mom, I have a hole in my heart and only one percent of it is filled,"' Juanita wrote, expressing the family's profound grief and asking for privacy during this devastating time.
Fans and loved ones were invited to pay their final respects at the Craftman's Tattoo studio in Arnhem. His brother, Dean Saunders, also paid an emotional tribute on social media, writing that he had never experienced such pain and noting that Ben will remain forever in their hearts.
