Barry Manilow Cuts Las Vegas Comeback Short Due to Bronchitis
Legendary singer Barry Manilow abruptly cut short his Las Vegas comeback show after performing just two songs due to a sudden bout of bronchitis, concerning fans worldwide.
It was supposed to be a celebratory weekend for Barry Manilow and his devoted fans. After a six-week hiatus, the legendary 83-year-old Jewish American singer returned to the stage in Las Vegas on Thursday, receiving an enthusiastic welcome and even joking with the crowd. However, within less than 24 hours, the promising comeback took a concerning turn.
On Friday, Manilow took the stage for another performance as part of his residency at the Westgate Las Vegas, but managed to perform just two songs before leaving the stage. According to reports, right before walking off, he told the audience, "Talk amongst yourselves." The band kept playing while the crowd waited, but Manilow never returned. Shortly afterward, an announcement was made in the venue that due to circumstances beyond the production's control, the show had come to an end.
Health Struggles and Bronchitis Diagnosis
The reason soon became clear: bronchitis. Representatives for Manilow and the hotel stated that following his successful return show on Thursday, the singer contracted bronchitis and was forced to cancel his Friday and Saturday performances. According to reports, attendees received notifications regarding ticket refunds due to the cancellation.
The incident takes on added significance given the veteran star's recent health battles. In late 2025, Manilow revealed that he was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer after an MRI scan detected a cancerous mass in his left lung. He underwent surgery to remove part of the lung and subsequently managed to return to performing. Ironically, the medical scan that led to the discovery of the disease was performed after he had spent a prolonged period dealing with bouts of bronchitis.
"I feel like a teenager all over again," Manilow joked just a night before the drama, after fans tossed undergarments onto the stage during his triumphant Thursday comeback.
Looking Ahead to Future Shows
Just an evening before the sudden turn of events, Manilow seemed to be right back in his element. During Thursday's comeback show, he told the audience it was his first time back after a long break and mentioned the medical issues he had endured. The atmosphere even turned playful when fans tossed clothing items onto the stage.
His most recent break followed an exceptionally grueling summer, during which he completed 29 shows in just 68 days. Manilow himself admitted at the time that the pace was likely too intense and announced he was taking a break until his scheduled return to Las Vegas.
As of now, the performance schedule still includes upcoming shows in Las Vegas, though no initial announcement was made regarding whether they will also be affected by his current condition. For now, after a single evening that made it seem the legend was back in full swing, fans are once again waiting anxiously for positive news regarding his health.
