FC Barcelona is set to face Real Madrid in El Clasico on October 25 with a fresh name emblazoned on their jerseys: Tyler, the Creator. The American rapper becomes the ninth artist to collaborate with the Catalan club, following a star-studded list that includes Drake, Rosalía, The Rolling Stones, Karol G, Coldplay, Travis Scott, Ed Sheeran, and Olivia Rodrigo.

Controversial Beginnings and Past Backlash

However, the selection of Tyler brings with it significant baggage from the early days of his career. Spanish sports daily Marca highlighted his formative years, during which he sparked widespread outrage over explicit lyrics in his songs, featuring homophobic slurs, violence, and graphic depictions of women.

His breakout albums Bastard and Goblin, released in 2009 and 2011 respectively, turned him into a deeply polarizing figure, drawing sharp condemnation from human rights organizations. In 2015, British authorities banned him from entering the country for a period of three to five years due to his violent and explicit content, forcing the cancellation of several scheduled UK performances.

Artistic Evolution and Fashion Icon

In the years that followed, a major shift occurred in his public persona and musical style. With his critically acclaimed 2017 album Flower Boy, he began openly addressing his attraction to men, adding a new dimension to the ongoing discourse surrounding the provocative language that defined his early work.

Alongside his musical journey, Tyler has established himself as a prominent figure in the fashion world. He founded the streetwear brand GOLF WANG and the luxury line le FLEUR*, while collaborating with high-end fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, Converse, and Lacoste. Reports indicate that the word GOLF may appear prominently on the special edition jersey for the upcoming Clasico.

Tyler is no stranger to the club's fanbase, having been spotted cheering from the stands at Camp Nou. Now, his relationship with Barcelona takes a massive leap forward, moving from a spectator in the stands to a featured partner on the shirt during one of the most-watched matches in global football.
