Bar Zohar from Kfar Warburg was a talented and exceptional young woman who served in the IDF's elite Multidimensional Unit. She loved music and wrote hundreds of songs, some of which were set to music and published after her death. On October 7, she went to the Nova music festival with four friends. During their escape, she was shot and severely wounded, yet she continued to guide her friends to safety, saving three of them.

During hours of terror, she demonstrated extraordinary courage and resourcefulness. Despite being wounded by gunfire, she insisted on returning to the festival area to warn police officers about terrorists on Route 232, where they were directing escaping crowds, thereby saving hundreds of partygoers. Her family works to preserve her memory through the songs and words she left behind. The "Nova Tribe Community Association" shared Bar Zohar's favorite pasta recipe to honor her memory.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams penne pasta

  • 50 grams butter

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed

  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes (750 grams)

  • 1 container (250 ml) 38% heavy cream

  • Salt and black pepper

  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves

  • 100 grams grated Parmesan cheese

  • About 1/2 cup of reserved pasta cooking water

Instructions

Heat the butter and olive oil in a pot and sauté the onion until translucent. Add the garlic and cook for half a minute over low heat so it doesn't burn.

Add the crushed tomatoes and heavy cream to the pot and cook for two minutes. Season with salt and pepper, and add the basil leaves. Simmer on low heat for another 10 minutes.

Cook the pasta according to the package instructions.

Once the pasta is ready, drain it and transfer it to the pot with the sauce, adding half a cup of the cooking water. Cook over high heat for another 2 minutes.

Add the Parmesan cheese and mix well. Serve immediately with plenty of extra Parmesan on top.

Bon appétit!
