TV ratings: Kan 11 shows growth despite general downward trend
Viewers are increasingly moving away from daily routine viewing, yet Kan 11 is showing a surprising strengthening in all broadcast segments while other major channels lose ground.
The year 5786 is shaping up to be a year of two main rating stories: on one hand, Keshet 12 maintains its status as the leading channel in daily viewing, and on the other hand, Kan 11 is becoming the home of the year's biggest television events, led by the 2026 World Cup broadcasts and the Eurovision contest. Comparing the average ratings of last year to the current year 5786 by broadcast segments, it appears that Kan 11 has strengthened both in prime time and in all news segments.
In the prime segment (21:30 to 23:00), Kan 11 rose over the past year from 4.1% to 4.7% — a jump of 14.6%. The main news edition with Tali Moreno and Tal Berman saw an increase of 5.3%, Friday News with Moav Vardi grew by 6.7%, and Saturday News with Ayala Hasson jumped by 10.6%, reaching 5.2%.
Keshet 12 continues to lead in all major segments, but recorded a decrease compared to 5785. The sharpest decline was in the main edition with Yonit Levi and Danny Kushmaro, which fell by 12.8% (from 15.6% to 13.6%). Reshet 13 also weakened in most segments: the main news edition dropped from 6.2% to 5.4%, and prime time fell from 8.9% to 8.2%. Channel 14 recorded moderate declines, while i24NEWS showed relative growth from a low base.
The ranking of the ten most-watched broadcasts of 5786 tells a different story: the first five places all belong to Kan 11, and the next five to Keshet 12. At the top is the 2026 World Cup final (Spain vs. Argentina) with an extraordinary rating of 40.6%. Four out of the five leading broadcasts are sports events, highlighting the power of live, one-time events to generate mass viewing. Keshet 12 enters the top ten with entertainment programs and special news editions, such as the February 28 broadcast marking the start of Operation "Lion's Roar" against Iran.
The 5786 data illustrates a clear split: Keshet 12 remains the strongest channel in Israel for daily routine, while Kan 11 excels in peak events, further bolstered by millions of views on digital platforms like Kan BOX and YouTube.
