Ashkelon School Brawl Triggers Outrage and Student Suspensions
A violent school brawl in Ashkelon involving six students attacking a peer has sparked national outrage. TV star Ilanit Levi condemned the incident, leading to suspensions and municipal safety reviews.

A violent altercation among students at the Makif Eret HaYayin high school in Ashkelon has sparked widespread outrage across Israel, drawing a sharp reaction from television personality Ilanit Levi. A video circulating on social media captures a female student being attacked by a group of six peers in a school hallway as onlookers film and cheer. According to reports, the incident began with a verbal dispute on Monday before escalating into physical violence.
Ilanit Levi took to Instagram to condemn the incident, directly addressing the parents of those involved and calling for immediate accountability at home. The footage prompted severe criticism over school safety and the conduct of bystanders, with initial claims suggesting that staff members failed to intervene. However, the Ashkelon Municipality refuted these claims following an internal review, stating that a school counselor intervened promptly, followed shortly by the principal, additional staff, and the security guard.
In response to the uproar, municipal authorities announced that all six students involved in the assault have been suspended and their parents summoned for disciplinary hearings. The school administration has also been instructed to dedicate a special homeroom session to violence prevention and anti-bullying initiatives. Meanwhile, Dudu Levi, head of the municipal parents' forum, strongly condemned the violence, emphasizing the urgent need for a unified effort to ensure student safety in educational institutions.
