Weapons, magazines and hundreds of bullets: resident of Segev Shalom indicted
Police officers who arrived to conduct a search at a house in Segev Shalom noticed a young man climbing onto the roof with an M-16-style weapon and throwing it into the neighbors' yard. During the search of the house, magazines, weapon parts, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were seized. At the end of the investigation, a serious indictment was filed against him.
An indictment was filed today, Monday, against a resident of Segev Shalom in his 20s, after he allegedly tried to dispose of an M-16-style assault rifle while police officers arrived to conduct a search at his home. The weapon was seized, and during the subsequent search conducted by the police at the scene, magazines, weapon parts, and hundreds of bullets were also found.
The incident occurred on July 30, when police officers from the Segev Shalom station and fighters from the Yoav unit arrived at a house in neighborhood 3 of the town to conduct a search based on a warrant. According to the police, upon the arrival of the forces, the suspect climbed onto the roof carrying an M-16-style weapon, which was wrapped in plastic wrap.
According to the indictment, the suspect threw the weapon over the house fence into the neighbors' yard. The police officers who noticed his actions called out to him, and he moved away from the roof and began to descend the internal stairs of the house, where he was arrested.
During the search of the house, the police found a closet containing a bag with four M-16 magazines filled with bullets, six empty magazines, and four coupled magazines. In addition, various weapon parts were seized, including a handle, a stock, and a reflex sight, as well as hundreds of 5.56 mm bullets in bulk.
At the end of the investigation at the Segev Shalom station, the Southern District Attorney's Office filed an indictment against the suspect in the District Court. Among other things, he is charged with illegal possession of weapons, weapon parts, and ammunition, carrying a weapon, conducting transactions with weapons and ammunition, obstruction of justice, and interfering with police officers in the performance of their duties.
Commander of the Segev Shalom station, Superintendent Eli Cohen, stated:
"The police officers of the Segev Shalom station will continue to act with determination and professionalism against weapons offenses, to locate weapons held illegally, and to act with all the tools at our disposal in order to prevent their use and maintain public safety."
According to him, the activity presented here demonstrates once again that even when an attempt is made to hide and throw away a weapon, the police will act to locate it and bring those responsible to justice.
