Weapon drawn in the heart of Tel Aviv: Footage from Netanyahu's convoy stirs social media
A video circulated on social media shows a tense moment during the Prime Minister's convoy's journey, as a security guard emerged from a moving SUV with a weapon. The Shin Bet issued an official response regarding the incident.
Unusual footage appearing on the social network X has caused a stir, showing a tense moment during a routine trip of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's convoy in the heart of Tel Aviv. In the video, a black SUV from the Shin Bet's VIP protection unit is seen moving within the column. During the drive, the vehicle's door opens, and a security guard is seen leaning out while in motion, holding a long weapon and aiming it alertly in a specific direction.
Following the publication of the footage, filmed by Michael Lugassy, and the subsequent discourse on social media, an official response was issued by the Shin Bet, which backed the force on the ground:
"All actions taken by the security guard were carried out as required, without causing any risk to citizens, in accordance with the procedures and authorities granted to him by law."
The incident takes place against the backdrop of increased security around the members of the Netanyahu family. On July 16, the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs approved the expansion of the security apparatus for Sara Netanyahu, the Prime Minister's wife, for the remainder of Netanyahu's life. In addition, it was decided to extend security arrangements for their children, Yair and Avner Netanyahu, for five years after their father's term ends—a service that will provide them with tight security until the end of 2031.
These decisions were made after competent security authorities determined that the Prime Minister's family members are under a high level of threat throughout their lives, a fact that directly affects the preparation and alertness of security mechanisms on the ground.
