Amazon marked a historic milestone in the capital market today (Monday), after crossing the $3 trillion market cap threshold for the first time since its inception. The company's stock continued the positive momentum from recent days, rising during trading by about 3.8% to 5% and reaching a peak of about $287 per share, an achievement that brought the e-commerce and cloud giant into the prestigious club of the world's largest companies.

With this, Amazon joins Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Alphabet, which have already crossed the $3 trillion market cap threshold in the past. The achievement comes just days after the publication of the financial reports for the second quarter of 2026, which surprised to the upside in almost all key metrics and strengthened investor confidence in the company.

Amazon reported revenue of $200 billion in the second quarter, above analyst forecasts that stood at about $196.4 billion. A significant surprise was also recorded in the profit line, as earnings per share reached $5.75, compared to forecasts of only $1.82. Following the reports, the company's stock jumped by about 8% in after-hours trading, and the positive momentum continued in the days that followed.

One of the main growth engines was the cloud sector. The AWS division presented revenue of $42.3 billion, above the forecasts that stood at about $40.5 billion, and grew by 37% compared to the same period last year. This is a significantly higher rate than that predicted by analysts, who estimated growth of about 31%.

The company's advertising activity also continued to show strong performance, with revenue of $19.81 billion, above market forecasts. At the same time, Amazon announced that it intends to invest about $200 billion in capital expenditures during 2026, with the bulk of the budget directed to expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centers.

On Wall Street, it is estimated that the enthusiasm surrounding Amazon stems not only from the strong reports, but also from its status as one of the main beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence revolution. Investors point to the growing demand for AWS services, advanced computing infrastructure, and the company's dedicated artificial intelligence chips, including the Trainium series, as factors expected to continue to drive growth in the coming years.

Crossing the $3 trillion threshold also symbolizes Amazon's return to center stage on Wall Street, after a period in which it lagged behind some of the technology giants. Now, with strong financial results, huge investments in the field of artificial intelligence, and renewed confidence from investors, the company is re-establishing its position as one of the most dominant players in the global technology market.
