Brother Born to Family of Murdered Hostage Almog Sarusi Using Frozen Eggs
The family of murdered hostage Almog Sarusi welcomed a baby boy born from eggs frozen 25 years ago, bringing a ray of light amid deep national grief.
The family of Almog Sarusi, who was murdered by Hamas after being kidnapped from the Nova music festival, experienced a moment of profound joy with the birth of a new baby boy. Almog was among the six hostages whose bodies were recovered by the IDF from a tunnel in Rafah in August 2024, nearly a year after being taken captive on October 7.
A Miraculous Birth Rooted in the Past
Nearly 25 years ago, Almog's parents, Nira and Yigal, underwent a medical procedure to freeze eggs. Following the immense tragedy and loss of their eldest son, the family rediscovered the frozen genetic material. After navigating complex medical hurdles and finding a surrogate mother, a successful pregnancy was achieved.
The newborn baby, named Lavi, was welcomed into the family at a moving circumcision ceremony. Ra'anana Mayor Haim Broydo, who attended the event, described the journey as a reality surpassing all fiction. Amit, Almog's sister, shared an emotional message online, expressing belief that her late brother had a hand in making the miracle happen from above.
"We will forever carry the pain of Almog in our hearts, but we are full of hope that alongside the sorrow we will manage to rejoice in the gifts that God has given us," the family stated in their invitation.
Remembering Almog Sarusi
Almog Sarusi was 27 years old when he was murdered. He had attended the Nova festival with his partner, Shahar Gindi, who was also killed during the October 7 attacks. According to IDF investigations, Almog and five other hostages—Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Ori Danino, Carmel Gat, and Alexander Lobanov—were executed by their captors shortly before troops reached their underground hiding place in the southern Gaza Strip.
